We are ready to welcome you back!

It is with great hope that all of you are well and safe. Below please read our in- person guidelines carefully.  We have in place these guidelines so that we can have a safe environment to worship and hear God’s Word.  We look forward to seeing you and Welcome Home!

Guidelines. . .
Here’s what we’re doing to keep you safe
  • If you are sick, at risk due to health or age, or you are not yet comfortable attending worship service, we encourage you to continue watching the online service from your home at www.joyforyou.org, www.youtube.com, or facebook.com/joylutheranhouston.
  • If you have been tested for the COVID virus and are awaiting test results, please stay home and watch services online until you receive your results.
  • Worship service will begin at 10:30am.  We ask that person(s) attending service arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before service begins.  Once you arrive everyone will go directly to the sanctuary.
  • Before entering the building, everyone’s temperature will be taken.  If you have a temperature over 100.4 it will be suggested that you watch the service online from home.
  • Mask must always be worn once entering the building  unless you have a medical reason for not wearing one.
  • We ask you always follow social distancing guidelines  once you have entered the building.
  • Please sanitize your hands when you enter. Sanitizer stations are positioned all throughout the building for you to use.
  • When seating in the sanctuary, please social distance.  Families sitting together will need to leave two chairs empty between next person(s).  Every other row has been marked off with yellow caution tape.  Please do not sit in these rows.
  • We are re-gathering in-person at 50% occupancy (which means 50 will be allowed to attend service in the sanctuary).  After the sanctuary has reached capacity, we will be able to fit 30 more individuals in the Fellowship Hall to watch the service on the big screen tv.
  • An email invite will go out every Tuesday asking everyone to RSVP for the upcoming Sunday.  The Sunday invite will also be placed on our Facebook page facebook.com/joylutheranhouston.  Please RSVP to Kathy Sommers through email (joylutheran44ks@gmail.com), Facebook page facebook.com/joylutheranchurch), or calling the church office at 832.850.5070. By having everyone RSVP, this will help us to make sure there is enough room for everyone and know when we may need to go to a second service.
  • There will be no coffee and doughnuts served before service.  The kitchen will be closed.
  • No food or drinks (except bottled water) are allowed in sanctuary.
  • The nursery is closed until further notice.
  • There will be no Sunday School.  All Sunday School rooms are closed.
  • The church office will be closed.
  • The water fountains have been closed and will not be available for use.  Water will be set out on the Welcome Cart for anyone needing something to drink.
  • Kids bags will be available.  The bags are yours to keep.  Please take them home after service.
  • The entire building will be sanitized before and after services for the safety of everyone.  When a second service begins, we will sanitize the building in between services.

Communion Guidelines

  • Communion will be after worship service is over.  The Elders will direct everyone on where to proceed.
  • Everyone watching worship service from the Fellowship Hall will partake in communion once the sanctuary has cleared out.  Elders will then instruct everyone in the Fellowship Hall on where to proceed.
  • Once you have partaken in the sacraments, we ask that you exit the building.  Social distancing will be followed during communion. On non-communion Sunday’s please exit the building after worship service.
  • Pastor Mark and Elders will have masks and gloves on while distributing sacraments.  Masks and gloves will be worn to prepare sacraments for distribution.  As of today, we are using communion kits.
  • If there is anyone not comfortable coming into the building for communion, there will be Drive-Up Communion.
  • Drive-Up Communion will be communion kits with wine and bread.  Watch for Elders for instructions on how to proceed for drive-through.  Drive-up Communion will begin around 11:30am – 12:00pm.
  • Communion Sundays are the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month.

These are strange and difficult times but remember we are never alone, and we will get through this with God at our side.
